Power clean

Ya’ll… I LOVE lifting. It’s not a secret.  I seriously could do away with the whole cardio situation and just lift heavy things all the time. Nope. I’m not even kidding. I do the cardio because I have to. It’s part of the WOD. I do it. I might not like it but I do it.  When it’s over is the best feeling in the world because I got through it.

Yesterday, at work, we were cleaning out our basement area prepping large bankers boxes for shredding because we have two divisions moving into our building here in Harrisburg.  I work for Norfolk Southern and typically I’m doing officey/clerical stuff but yesterday was a cleaning day.  We were moving old information and paperwork into large boxes and then putting them into the nearby hallway to prep them for a large shred haul.

I have a point. I promise.  I’ve added “power cleaning heavy boxes onto a cart” to things I CAN NOW DO.  I would never have been able to do that last year at this time. Those boxes would have been way to heavy, the work itself would have been way too taxing and I would have found some way to get out of it.  Instead, I welcomed it as a morning workout. A warmup, if you will, to prep me for the cleans I was going to be doing in the WOD last evening.

Sure, I was sweaty. (Thank goodness for old jeans and t-shirts) Sure, it was dirty. It wasn’t that fun. The point I’m making is that I could actually DO it. I could actually go down and BE helpful.  Sometimes it’s the little things that shock me and this was one of them.

Just when you think you can’t do more. Just when you think you don’t need to push yourself… I implore you to do just that.  If you’ve been working with the trainer bar (17 lbs) and some 5 lb weights on each end for a long, long time…  check yourself and see if you can move up to a 35 lb empty bar. Check with your coach for your class. Check back in with your foundations coach. Push yourself further and surprise yourself with what you can do.

Will it hurt? Yes. Will you be sore? Absolutely. Will you have accomplished something? FOR SURE.  There is NO shame in trying and not being ready.  We fail when we don’t try. Heck, I tried to pause power clean 85 lbs yesterday and couldn’t. Yet. (If you’re curious about what a pause power clean looks like check out YouTube.) I tried. Several times. Coach Ray can attest to that. I just couldn’t work it out.  I can clean it just fine…  but pausing was my nemesis. I’ll get it. I know I will. I just need to keep working at it.

As always, we are here to cheer you on. We are here to push you and to support you after we’ve pushed you.  We are here to SHOW you that you can do it and then celebrate your accomplishment.  You have an entire community of cheerleaders. We’ll let you fall and then we’ll show you how YOU can get back up on your own.

How are you going to push past your OWN limits this week? Tell me about yours and I’ll tell you about mine.

See you at the mat!!!!
