So… I did a burpee….

Ok… Ok… It wasn’t the actual ‘toss myself lightly down to the ground as I jump back with my legs and then jump back up’ burpee but by my standards and based on what I’ve been doing before… it was a burpee.

Could I have done one sooner? Probably. Was I terrified? Absolutely. Our workout for the fitness Open for week 4 (Commonly known as 19.4) is 3 rounds of 10 power snatches and 12 bar facing burpees. That’s just the first part. Then we rest for 3 minutes and you go into some muscle ups and some more snatches. There is no modification for the burpees for the Open so it was do or don’t. I very, very rarely choose don’t.

One of my goals was to do an actual burpee. I wrote it down. I showed it to my foundations coach. I showed it to my spouse. I dreamed about it. I watched video after video of every size person doing every modification of a burpee imaginable. I wished burpees away, even. And then I changed my negative thinking about it to psyche myself up for doing it.

I did NOT come this far to ONLY come this far, folks. I had a goal. Do a burpee. Now I can cross that goal off the list and work on the next goal. If I can focus on ONE goal I can accomplish it. It takes 30 days to change a habit. 30 days of really. really hard work. 30 days of motivation. 30 days of going when you don’t want to. 30 days of asking yourself “Is this piece of cake worth the calories.” 30 days of finding every single excuse in the book to go home instead of going to the gym. 30 days of having an answer back for those negative thoughts.

I am, by no means, a fitness expert or a nutrition coach. I am, without a shadow of a doubt, a motivated and passionate person. All I know is that I want to be healthy. I want to be thinner. I want to continue losing weight and inches. I want to continue this journey because when I get to the NEXT goal I’ll be able to cross that off my list and it’ll just be one more accomplishment. I don’t know about you but I like that feeling.

The best part? I’ve already built up that habit of going to the gym. Now, I get to work towards a new goal. One burpee at a time.

See you at the Box!!!
